This Fall, the Friends of the Library partnered with the county’s Department of Social Services to support the Family Nurturing Program. The Friends provided 25 new children’s books for distribution to the families participating in this program. As noted by Jone Taylor, program director, in noting the Friends’ contribution,
The Family Nurturing Program assists families in creating a nurturing environment emphasizing the importance of raising children in a warm, trusting, and caring household. It is founded on the belief that children who are cared for develop the capacity to trust, care, and respect themselves, other people, living things, and the environment. Reading to your children is a very important aspect of nurturing. The parents of the children receiving these books were so proud to see them with their brand new books.
This contribution by the Friends reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to enhance literacy throughout the community.
