Wanted! Nominees for the 2019 FOL Board of Directors!

Looking ahead to 2019, the Friends of the Library will have openings on its Board of Directors, and is currently accepting applications from potential Board members.

The Friends of the Library is committed to ensuring that the Libraries in our county remain first-rate institutions and to enabling the Libraries to enhance and expand the resources they provide to our community. By serving on the Board of Directors, you would have the chance to shape how the Friends organization pursues this mission in the future.

The Friends Board meets every month, and board members are active throughout the year working on programs and projects. (For more background on all that the Friends do, review our website.) Any current member of the Friends of the Library is eligible to be on the Board (including members who have just joined the organization — or plan to join via https://friendsofqaclibrary.org/membership/ — for 2019). In addition to a love of libraries and of Queen Anne’s County, we are especially looking for new Board members who have:

  • experience working in development and/or on fund-raising campaigns,
  • experience in public relations and marketing, and/or
  • a high-level of comfort with web-based technologies for outreach.

Directors serve for a 3-year term and will be officially selected at the 2019 FOL Annual Meeting, scheduled for March 4.  All candidates for the Board will be reviewed by a nominating committee comprised of Friends members in advance of the March meeting, and the committee will make recommendations on a slate of candidates for the members to consider.

If you are interested (and we hope you are!), please send an email to FriendsOfQACLibrary@gmail.com. In the email, please indicate why you would like to join the board and  what skills/expertise you would bring to the position to help lead the organization. Also please include your phone number so that the Nominating Committee can reach out to you. Please submit your letter of interest by January 15, 2019.

The Friends board is a hard-working group, but it can be a very rewarding experience. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kathie Smarick, current president of the Board of Directors, if you have any questions.
