October 18-24, 2015 is a national week of celebration for Friends of Libraries organizations, and the Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library is proud to have the County Commissioners of Queen Anne’s County officially issue a proclamation formalizing this recognition.
The Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library were established in late 2013 and have given over $6,000 to the library to date. Currently over 50 community members contribute annually to the Friends and nearly 20 of these contributors actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts that include the annual used book sale.
“The library has always played such an important role in my life,” said Friends president Mary E. Jackson. “As a retired librarian, I truly enjoy being able to give something back – and being an active member of this group is very rewarding and fulfilling.” Other officers of the organization are Carol Franks-Randall, Vice President; Penny Lins, Secretary; and Connie Zillig, Treasurer.
“Our library has been enriched by the Friends,” said library director John Walden. “The funds they raise have enabled the library to purchase tee shirts for the summer reading program and provide a monthly arts program at each library, to mention just two programs.”
The Library Red (and White) fund raiser on October 16, 2015 will kick off this celebration and its proceeds will provide funds to supplement and enhance existing Queen Anne’s County Library programs. The Friends and Cascia Vineyards have partnered on an evening of wine and tasty delights. The evening will also include a silent auction and raffle of a wide selection of products and services. The Friends extend appreciation to the more than 50 local businesses that have contributed to this effort through their donations:
