One of the initiatives of the Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library is to promote literacy. With that in mind, the Friends, working in collaboration with the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools established the Reading Pro award. This award acknowledged a 4th or 5th grade student in each of the six elementary schools at the end of the 2015-16 academic year who “moved up” to middle school at and demonstrated significant achievement in reading and language arts.

Dr. Elaine O’Neal, Supervisor of Instruction and Early Learning and Elementary at Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, stated that, “The QACPS was pleased to partner with the Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library who made the Reading Pro award possible at each of the elementary schools. The students were excited to receive these awards.”

The recipients of the Friends of Queen Anne’s County Library Reading Pro award are the following:
Giovanna Donadio, Bayside Elementary
Parker Smith, Church Hill Elementary
Henri Cinto, Grasonville Elementary
Megan Kamm, Kennard Elementary
Zachary Zeps, Matapeake Elementary 
Modesto-Velasquez Arreaga, Sudlersville Elementary

Each recipient received a certificate and a Barnes and Noble gift card
